Studio publications was a small Toronto paperback publisher in the 1950’s. They only published 14 books but one of those books was Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp. This was part of their Junior Adventure Library (No. J3). Studio publications books are not particularly plentiful. It wasn’t until Bowdler at the Fly-by-Night blog included Aladdin in a post that I became aware of both the title and the publisher. His posts regarding Studio can be found here. Nine or ten of the other Studio books can be found for sale on line. Alas, Aladdin is not one of them.
Until last week, I had never seen a copy of the Studio Aladdin offered for sale. I was very excited to see one pop up on eBay. Unfortunately, there was another bidder who, it turns out, was even more excited than I was and they won the auction. I’ll bet that the seller wasn’t expecting that rather modest paperback to sell for what it did. So the Studio Aladdin is one that got away.
